damadged by royal mail???

hi i sold an item a couple of weeks ago and have now recived a message saying when it was collected from the post office it had been damadged i had packed the item extremley well and had wrote fragile all over it the buyer is now demanding a full refund how do i sort this as i feel as thou i will loose out as i will not have my item and will have to refund for it has ne one got ne advice this buyer tOok just over a week to pay for item to start with if he only picked it up yesterday its been hanging round sortng office for a week i also have a niggling doubt that he is tryin to pull a fast one HELP!!!!
